How did your career history prepare you to become a founder of Topo Financial?
I have been in the life insurance industry for over a decade and during that time, I have seen how the industry does not change or adapt to the younger generation of agents. Technology and change seemed to always take a back seat. The conferences I attended were always full of agents twice my age who insisted on using fax machines. It seems to still be this way, but it doesn't have to be. That's why we are focused on innovation Topo.
What core principles is Topo Financial founded on? Topo Financial was formed to allow young and ambitious individuals an opportunity to earn a great living while in college, while working on a career that extends past college graduation. The great insurance and financial representatives that work for Topo will learn a wealth of industry knowledge and priceless experience. This will help them earn more if they choose to stay with Topo but they will also be more prepared if they move to a new company inside the financial industry--more so than if they had chosen to work somewhere else while in college. |

Share a memorable moment with a client. How did insurance empower this client with financial freedom?
I recently met with a client individually who had purchased life insurance eight years ago. The client came in wanting to know how long his term policy would last. We reviewed the policy and determined that he had two years left on his current policy and that he had options to extend the coverage. At that time the client looked at his wife and told me he had late stage liver cancer. They were so relieved that he had life insurance! They both thanked me for helping them with their insurance and left the office knowing that was something they did NOT have to worry about. Allowing this client to have peace of mind as he faced some truly difficult challenges was so rewarding and one of the reasons we feel so strongly about taking life insurance personally and giving clients one-on-one attention.
What are the advantages of working for a growing company like Topo Financial?
Having been in the industry for over a decade, I have seen the do's and don'ts of how to be an insurance agent and agency. Topo Financial has taken the don'ts and thrown them out the window. We are focusing on the do's. For example, as agents in the industry, we are trained to rely on other people to get our clients approved in a fast manner. Topo has looked at that process and said, "This isn't good enough!" As agents, we can control how fast our clients get approved. Topo is partnering with insurance carriers and paramedical examiners to speed up and improve the entire client experience. Being part of a company that is changing the way the industry thinks is a great experience.

What advice do you have for someone who is just starting their journey with Topo Financial? The life insurance industry isn not an industry that has people lining up to join the ranks, but when you take a look as the marketplace and the needs, it quickly become extremely appealing. It is an industry that needs disruption. I want to see new employees to come in open-minded as we share our experience and introduce new processes. I want to hire people who are eager to learn and wanting to work. This industry is one that will reward the hard work of those that put in the time and effort to become an expert in their field. |
